Follow my journey from beginner to master (hopefully)
Hi, my name is Shaya Krauss, I love cooking and trying new things. I’ve been extremely interested in smoking meats for a while now. I don’t like to jump into new things without proper research, especially when it means spending money.
Unfortunately, I haven’t found a good source of knowledge in the Kosher Smoking world. One can argue that there’s no real need for a Kosher Smoking knowledge base, since it doesn’t really matter what you’re smoking, just follow a recipe and hope for the best. I’d argue with that with a couple of arguments
- Most Kosher butchers will name their meat parts differently than conventional butchers. Most notably, in the Kosher world the brisket is separated into a 1st cut and 2nd cut, whereas online you’ll only find them referred to the flat and the point
- Many recipes and methods use Non-Kosher meats and/or Non-Kosher cuts, every meat and cut benefits from different spices, flavors, temperatures and time.
While these would be my two main arguments, I’m sure there are more.
Having said that, I would like The Kosher Smokers Club to become the one stop shop for anything Kosher meat smoking related. I’ll be posting with constant updates of my journey, as I continue to learn more and more about smoking.
I’d love for you to come along with me for the ride, and perhaps teach me a thing or two about this amazing form of cooking.
